Thinking about moving to Taiwan?
Let’s make sure it’s actually the right decision for you.
There’s a lot of content out there — YouTube videos, blogs, Reddit threads…
But it’s often incomplete, outdated, or overly idealized.
Why This Exists
Moving to Taiwan can feel exciting at first.
Great food, friendly people, vibrant cities… it’s easy to fall in love with the idea.
But once you look closer, things get more complex.
Work, visas, social life, long-term stability — these are the things people often don’t talk about enough.
I’ve seen many people make big decisions based on partial information…
and only realize the reality later.
That’s exactly what I want to help you avoid.
What You’ll Find Here
This isn’t about convincing you to move to Taiwan.
It’s about helping you figure out:
- Whether Taiwan is a good fit for you personally
- What daily life actually feels like
- What tends to work (and not work) for foreigners
- What trade-offs come with living there
Who This Is For
You’ll probably find this helpful if you’re:
- Thinking about moving to Taiwan long-term
- Planning to study (Mandarin or a degree)
- Trying to figure out job options as a foreigner
- Not 100% sure if Taiwan is the right choice
If you’re looking for honest insights to help you decide, you’re in the right place.
What Makes This Different
Most content about Taiwan tends to go in one of two directions:
- Either very negative
- Or a bit too positive
Reality is usually somewhere in between.
Here, I try to share:
- Real experiences, not just general advice
- Cultural context to help things make sense
- The “why” behind how things work
- The good parts and the challenging ones
The goal is simple:
👉 help you make a decision you’ll feel good about later

About Me

Hey — I’m Antoine.
I’m originally from Belgium, and I spent over five years living in Taiwan.
I first went there to study Chinese, planning to stay for a year…
and ended up staying much longer.
I completed my master’s degree at National Taiwan University, did internships, and later worked in a local Taiwanese startup.
So I’ve seen Taiwan from quite a few angles:
- As a student
- As a language learner
- As an intern
- As an employee
- And now as a business owner
Today, I co-run Polylocal, where we help bridge Taiwan and Europe through cross-cultural work.
I started Bubble Tea Island because I kept seeing the same pattern:
people making big life decisions about Taiwan without really having the full picture.
I’m not here to sell you a dream.
Just to help you see things more clearly.
