About Me

I’m originally from Belgium, and I’ve spent over five years living in Taiwan.
I first came to Taiwan to study Chinese, intending to stay for one year.
That year turned into a longer journey.
I went on to complete my master’s degree at National Taiwan University, one of Taiwan’s top universities, where I experienced the local academic system from the inside. During and after my studies, I completed several internships and later worked for around two years in a local Taiwanese start-up, navigating the job market, workplace culture, and everyday realities as a foreigner.
Over time, I’ve seen Taiwan from multiple angles:
- as a student
- as a language learner
- as an intern
- as a full-time employee
- and now as a business owner
Today, I co-run Polylocal, a consultancy that helps bridge Taiwan and Europe, working on cross-cultural communication, market understanding, and collaboration between the two regions.
Bubble Tea Island exists because I’ve seen how often people make major life decisions about Taiwan based on incomplete, idealized, or misleading information. My goal is not to sell Taiwan as a destination, but to help you understand whether it truly fits you, and how to approach it realistically if you decide to go.
I don’t offer guarantees or shortcuts.
I offer context, honesty, and perspective built from lived experience.
