Study Chinese in Taiwan

Hi, I’m Antoine.
I’m from Belgium, and I lived in Taiwan for more than five years.

I first came to Taiwan to study Chinese, then stayed to complete a Master’s degree at National Taiwan University. Over the years, I studied, worked, and lived fully in Chinese — far beyond the short-term student experience.

Why my advice is different

I didn’t experience Taiwan as a tourist or short-term exchange student. I built a life there:

  • navigating student visas and renewals
  • studying Mandarin seriously (inside and outside the classroom)
  • dealing with cultural misunderstandings
  • choosing between cities, schools, and learning environments
  • eventually moving beyond the “expat bubble (tea)”

What I help you with

I help you make realistic, informed decisions about studying Chinese in Taiwan, including:

  • Choosing between Mandarin Training Centers, private schools, or universities
  • Taipei vs other cities (and why Taipei isn’t always the best option)
  • Visa realities and limitations
  • Cost of living and lifestyle trade-offs
  • Learning progress expectations (what actually works)
  • Whether Taiwan is the right choice for you at this stage

Who this is for / not for

This is for you if you want:

  • Honest advice, not marketing promises
  • A realistic view of progress, costs, and outcomes

This is not for you if you’re looking for:

  • “Fluent in 3 months” narratives
  • Guaranteed results or school placements
