Make-up Day of 2025
There will be only one make-up day in 2024, which is Saturday, February 8th.
What are Make-up Days?
When a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the government arranges for an extended holiday weekend. To compensate, a Saturday from another week is designated as a make-up work day, known as 補班日 in Chinese. However, these make-up work days are controversial. Many argue that employees simply go to the office to “warm up seats,” contributing little to productivity or the economy, while causing unnecessary inconvenience. As a result, the governement has been trying to reduce the number of make-up days over the years.
